Conclusion

The combination of purging anorexia and alcohol dependence is emerging as a deadly combination affecting a large number of women. The current state of treatment is not sufficient to meet the needs of women suffering from this dual diagnosis. Changes must be made in the way mental health professionals assess, diagnose, and treat anorexia and substance abuse in women if we are to offer any hope for long-term recovery.
